Awards & Distinctions
Staten Island University Hospital is proud of the awards and recognitions that we've received. Here are a few highlights from recent years:
- From 2003 to 2009, SIUH received the Annual Incentive Payment Award for quality scores from the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Premier Healthcare Alliance Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) pay-for-performance project.
- In a 2009 survey published in New York Magazine's June 8th issue, "Best Doctors in New York," SIUH had 14 doctors recognized as being at the top of their field in the New York area. Those honored at SIUH represent a wide variety of specialties.
- SIUH was the National Research Corporation's Richmond County Consumer Choice Award winner for the 10th time in 2011. The award identifies hospitals that healthcare consumers have chosen as having the highest quality and image in more than 250 markets throughout the U.S.
- The Heart Institute's services at SIUH made the Thomson Reuters Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospitals List for 2009. The study by Thomson Reuters found that hospitals listed in the Top 100 scored significantly lower 30-day mortality rates and significantly lower 30-day readmission rates for patients with heart failure and heart attacks. (The Heart Institute is a joint venture of SIUH and Richmond University Medical Center.)
- SIUH received a 2009-2010 Gold Plus Award Recognition for the Treatment of Stroke "Get with the Guidelines" from the American Heart Association/Stroke Association by promoting the latest evidence-based treatment for stroke patients.
- Ranked in the 2009 America's Best Hospitals "Top 50" for Neurology/Neurosurgery, in the U.S. News & World Report.
- The Healthcare Association of New York State's 2008 Pinnacle Award for Cultural Transformation to Prevent Falls and Associated Injuries in a Tertiary Care Hospital.
- SIUH received the Premier Quality Award for Maternal and Neonatal Care in 2006. SIUH was recognized by Premier for achieving one of the lowest C-Section rates nationally (22%), and one of the highest success rates of vaginal deliveries for mothers with a prior birth by C-Section.
- SIUH earned the Best Functional Improvement Measures for Severe Stroke in 2006 from Uniform Data Systems' comparison of 880 similar rehabilitation programs across America.
- SIUH earned the 2004 Joint Commission Ernest A. Codman Award for Quality, and the Healthcare Association of New York State's 2003 Pinnacle Award for Quality of Care. Both awards were for SIUH's achievements in reducing mortality for hip fracture procedures.
