Panagiotis (Peter) Glavas, DDS, Director, General Practice Residency in Dentistry
Dr. Glavas graduated from New York University College of Dentistry in 1997, is a graduate of the General Practice Residency Program at Staten Island University Hospital in 1998, Chief Resident and graduate of the General Practice Residency Program Two year program in1999 and a graduate of the Prosthodontic Dentistry Program, Manhattan Veteran Affairs Hospital in 2002.
Dr. Glavas maintains a private specialty practice in Prosthetics, has been an active attending on staff at Staten Island University Hospital since graduating the residency program in 1999, became Director of Removable Prosthetics in the Department of Dentistry in 2005. He assumed the position as Director, General Practice Residency Program in Dentistry in 2011 and maintains a clinical professor position at New York University College of Dentistry since 2005.
In 2006, Dr. Glavas received the department's Dr. Alfonso Fressola Humanitarian Award and in 2010 received both the Dr. William P. Lavori Award for Professional Excellence from Staten Island University Hospital and the IDA Award from the India Dental Association.

The department of dentistry's Special Care Section owes much to Associate Director, Steven Ratner, DDS
Dr. Ratner is director of the Special Care Program and has been acknowledged for his leadership in this field.
In 1985, Dr. Ratner was awarded a fellowship in the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped. The fellowship committee expressed its recognition of the clinical protocols he provided in treating the mentally and physically disabled. In 1990, SIUH presented to him the Dr. William P. Lavori Award for Professional Excellence. He was the award's first recipient, so named for the department's director emeritus. Dr. Ratner's dental education was completed at the New York University College of Dentistry. His academic interests include a teaching appointment at the Columbia University School of Dentistry.
His professional memberships coincide with his special interests and include the Academy of Geriatric Dentistry, the Academy of Dentistry for the Handicapped and the American Analgesia Society. Dr. Ratner has been awarded fellowships in the New York Academy of General Dentistry and the American College of Dentists.
Associate Director David C. Hoffman, DDS, Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Hoffman directs program development for the department and heads up the cleft lip and palate program. He is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon credited with major cranio facial reconstructions.
Dr. Hoffman has participated in a national study to test a new prosthetic TM joint that is sized by computer to duplicate the patient's own joint. He has become a nationally recognized lecturer in TM arthroscopy and treatment. Dr. Hoffman holds a patent on a prosthetic TM joint.
Dr. Hoffman is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Cleft Lip and Palate Association and the National Council for International Health, among others. He is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and serves on the faculty of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and Downstate Medical Center.
A 1978 graduate of Staten Island University Hospital's General Dentistry program, Dr. Hoffman's residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery was completed at the University of Texas Health Science Center's Parkland Memorial, Dallas, and John Peter Smith Hospitals, Ft. Worth.
Program Director of the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program, Steven Schwartz, DDS
Dr. Schwartz maintained a private pediatric dentistry practice for over 30 years. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is the author of numerous clinical and practice management articles and popular lecturer and consultant.
His teaching career spans over three decades with faculty positions at New York University College of Dentistry, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and Staten Island University Hospital.
He has been actively involved in organized dentistry. He is a past president of the Richmond County Dental Society and the New York Association of Pediatric Dentists.
