Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH), Northwell Health, is one of the most active providers of comprehensive mental health services on Staten Island, a borough of New York City with a population of more than 470,000. We are part of a major teaching hospital, with residency programs in all principal medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties, providing direct clinical services, as well as outreach programs, to our community. The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences trains 16 psychiatric residents.

over a 3-4 year course of study, as well as, students from the following specialties: medical students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nursing, and social work.

Staffed by an accredited team of psychiatrists, counselors, social workers, nurses, and activity therapists, the Department offers comprehensive multi-disciplinary care wherever it is needed. We have a full continuum of adult substance abuse and psychiatric services which encompass both inpatient and outpatient care. The department treats about 4,000 inpatients per year and provides more than 34,000 (not including the methadone program visits) outpatient visits.
