Staten Island University Hospital is a 714-bed, Level I trauma center, and specialized teaching hospital. Occupying two large campuses, plus a number of community-based health centers and labs, the hospital provides quality care to the people of Staten Island, the New York metropolitan region, and to patients from around the world.
The 17-acre north campus (the site of the internship) is home of the Heart Institute, the Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood-Related Diseases, the Regional Burn Center and a large Rehabilitation Medicine Department.
The south campus offers specialty programs that include Geriatric Psychiatry, the hospital's accredited Institute for Sleep Medicine, and a range of behavioral health and substance abuse services
Staten Island University Hospital North contains a 68 bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, including 20 Inpatient Brain Injury beds. Programs servicing individuals with a broad range of acquired neurological conditions are housed within the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine and include: Inpatient services (consisting of a General Rehabilitation Unit and a Brain Injury Unit), Outpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation, Outpatient Neuropsychology, and an Outpatient Brain Injury Day Program.
The Internship is offered through the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital. The department offers services to infants through a geriatric population with a wide variety of medical, neurological and developmental disorders. The Rehabilitation Medicine Department is an ideal setting for trainees to gain experience working with a wide variety of presenting concerns, a culturally diverse population and a broad range of neuropsychological and neurological diagnoses.
