Institute of Sleep Medicine - Patient Instructions

  1. Please bring all health insurance information and cards to your appointments with the doctor and for the sleep test itself.
  2. Please have dinner before coming to the lab.
  3. DO NOT DRINK caffine containing beverages (tea, cola, coffee, Mountain Dew) or any chocolate products or consume any alcohol after 2:00p.m. the day of your test. Please arrive at the lab by 7:00 p.m. on the night of your test.
  4. Please bring a list of all medications including dosages and how often you take them. Also bring all medications you will need to take during your stay at the lab. DO NOT STOP taking any medication unless directed by your physician.
  5. Hair sprays, mousses, gels, make-up, body creams and oily soaps must be removed prior to testing. Private showering facilities are available in your bedroom if you desire to use them. We will supply towels and other linens.
  6. Please bring with you:
    1. Personal toilet articles (toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving gear, shampoo, make-up remover etc.)
    2. Bed cloths for sleeping (loose fitting two piece pajama with front opening are best). If you do not have pajamas, a loose fitting pair of shorts and T-shirt is permitted.
    3. Reading or work related materials. A color T.V. is available 9in your room.
    4. Your favorite pillow.
    5. A favorite bedtime snack (no caffeine/ chocolate containing substances).
    6. Cell phones and beepers must be turned off just before lights out.
  7. If you are experiencing excessive daytime sleepiness, please be sure that someone other than yourself drives you and picks you up in the morning.
  8. Please do not take any naps during the day of test.
  9. You can be woke up and go to work straight from the sleep lab if necessary. Please advise your technician of the time you need to arise in order to do this.
