Bariatric Surgery - Support Group Meetings
The Importance of Support Groups
Support groups have been proven to increase the chances of short-term and long-term patient success following bariatric surgery. These sessions are structured to promote discussion among patients regarding appropriate expectations for weight loss and progression towards healthy living. The groups offer a supportive environment to help patients manage the emotional changes that they face after weight loss and weight loss surgery. Support groups facilitate interaction between pre and post operative patients and give them the opportunity to gain knowledge from each others experience. Ongoing post- surgical support helps produce the greatest level of success. Patients are surrounded by others who support their goals and help them to understand the changes in diet and lifestyle after surgery which should last for a lifetime.
