Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that enhances the size and shape of a woman's breast. This procedure is done to:

• correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy
• balance breasts that are different sizes
• provide reconstruction following breast surgery.

According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there were 316,848 breast augmentation procedures performed in 2011.
