Dr. Antonio I. Picon was appointed the Chief of Surgical Oncology at Staten Island University Hospital in 2010. He works with a team of specialists dedicated to providing patients with the highest level of surgical care.
Dr. Picon is an expert in the surgical management of benign and malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He is board certified by the American College of Surgeons and specializes in treating diseases of the stomach, pancreas, liver, bile ducts, gallbladder, small and large intestine as well as soft tissue tumors.
He did his surgical residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. He went on to complete a Surgical Research Fellowship and the prestigious International Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. He also completed a Traveling Fellowship at the National Cancer Center in Tokyo where he studied various techniques for the treatment and management of gastric, pancreatic and hepatobiliary cancers.
In addition to his surgical oncology experience, Dr. Picon brings a wealth of experience to the area of minimally invasive surgery as well as complex general surgery procedures. He has been actively involved in the training of general surgery residents throughout his career. He also has numerous peer-reviewed publications which have been presented both nationally and internationally.
