    Physician Bio

    Dr. Cynara Coomer, Chief of Breast Surgery and Director of the Florina Rusi-Marke Comprehensive Breast Center, is a board certified surgeon and a specialist in nipple-sparing and areola-sparing mastectomies with immediate reconstruction. Dr. Coomer is skilled in providing partial breast radiation including intraoperative radiation therapy using the newest technologies available for breast cancer. She is experienced in all minimally invasive breast procedures and ultrasound-guided and stereotactic needle-core biopsies. Dr. Coomer is the key component in creating the first Comprehensive Breast Center on Staten Island and works in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of Radiologists, Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Plastic Surgeons, and all other breast cancer support staff members. With a primary interest in breast health, she is involved in community awareness surrounding breast diseases. Dr. Coomer emphasizes the importance of superior cosmetic outcome along with the appropriate treatment of breast cancer as both factors have a significant impact on a woman’s ability to resume a normal life.

    Dr. Cynara Coomer, Chief of Breast Surgery and Director of the Florina Rusi-Marke Comprehensive Breast Center is also a Medical Contributor for Fox and Fox News her clinical research and news reports are also focused around women’s health; specifically breast cancer and breast health at all ages. She is on the Board of Advisory for the American Cancer Society and is a Physician Liaison for the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Coomer is an impeccably well trained surgeon and has distinguished herself as a leader in Breast Surgery. She is actively involved in clinical research and has published numerous publications and continues to present at local and national professional conference. Additionally, she is a recipient to several prestigious awards including America’s Top Doctors, Physician of Distinction from the American Cancer Society and America’s Top Surgeons.
