    Physician Bio

    As chief of the neurosurgical departments at Staten Island University Hospital and Richmond University Medical Center, Dr. Edwin M. Chang specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of complex upper, middle and lower back pain. An honorary NYPD surgeon, Dr. Chang is also an expert on brain injuries and disorders in adults and children. Born in Shanghai in 1954, Dr. Chang is a Diplomat of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed an internship and residency at Ohio State University.

    Additionally, Dr. Chang is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He was also a professor at NYU Medical Center and an associate professor at Downstate Medical Center. In 2009, the neurosurgery department that Dr. Chang heads at SIUH, was recognized as being in the top one percent of the United States. With more than twenty years of private practice experience, including comprehensive training in the MIS (minimally invasive surgical) technique, Dr. Chang is one of the most referred to and respected specialists in the local community.
