Dr. John Carew, Director of Head & Neck Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital, specializes in thyroid and parathyroid disease. He is board certified in Head & Neck Surgery with over 13 years experience. Dr. Carew's knowledge and expertise in Otolaryngology and his wide range of contacts within the specialty has led to new, innovative technologies being used at Staten Island University Hospital. Dr. Carew has a special interest and expertise in thyroid and parathyroid tumors.
Dr. Carew has published more than 35 articles and 10 book chapters on topics in general otolaryngology as well as specifically in head and neck cancer. Many of the articles focused primarily on thyroid and salivary gland tumors. He is on the editorial board of five nationally renowned medical journals, including Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Cancer and Head and Neck. He has received numerous awards throughout his career, including national awards from the Triological Society (a national Otolaryngology society), the American Society of Head and Neck Surgery, and the Society of Head and Neck Surgery. He was also awarded (by the residents whom he trains, no less) the Teacher of the Year Award, recognizing him as the top teacher in Otolaryngology.
