SIUH CEO Appointed to NY Organ Donor Board

Staten Island University Hospital (SIUH) President and CEO, Anthony C. Ferreri, was recently appointed a Member of the Board of Directors of the New York Organ Donor Network (NYODN).

The Network's is dedicated to the recovery of organs and tissues for people in need of life-saving and life-improving transplants. The NYODN is committed to increasing awareness and fostering understanding of organ and tissue donation among health care professionals and the general public. With respect and compassion, NYODN empowers families with the knowledge required to make informed decisions about donation.

Ferreri is to participate in Board responsibilities that include: overseeing the governance structure of the board, participating in setting organizational policy, developing long-term strategic objectives and the meeting needs of the organizations and the communities serviced by the NYODN.

SIUH has been a longtime supporter of NYODN initiatives: hosting annual events in raising awareness for the importance of organ and tissue donation, for which the hospital received the Department of Health and Human Services Medal of Honor for 2007 and 2008 in recognition of achieving an organ donor consent rate of over 75%. SIUH has events schedules for this coming April for Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Month.

Ferreri also serves on the boards of SIUH, the North Shore-LIJ Health System and Greater New York Hospital Association. In 2010 Mayor Michael Bloomberg appointed Ferreri to the board of New York City Industrial Development Agency.

He has served on the boards of Snug Harbor Cultural Center and the Staten Island Division of the American Heart Association and has chaired several of its fund raising events. He is also a charter member and chairman of the board of Moore Catholic High School.

Living the legacy of his Italian-American heritage, Ferreri is proud to have been awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor by The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations.

The Alzheimer's Foundation of Staten Island, the Children's Campaign, Eger Health, Richmond County Medical Society, African American Political Association, Staten Island Heart Society, the VNA of Staten Island, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Wagner College have all honored this fourth generation Staten Islander for community service. In 2001, Ferreri received the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce Louis R. Miller Business Leadership Award.

Ferreri has served as SIUH President and CEO since August 2003.
