Holiday Spirit Survives for Island’s Seniors Despite Sandy

In the continued tradition of the late Mohammed Bari, M.D., director of Geriatrics at SIUH, Staten Island University Hospital is having its annual Geriatric Center Holiday Dinner. Originally slated for November, the original Thanksgiving celebration was postponed as a result of Hurricane Sandy.

Patients of the program will be treated to a full traditional dinner with all the trimmings. Games, prizes, dancing and trivia games are all part of bringing friends and the hospital family together during the holidays.

“This holiday tradition, founded by our mentor, the late Mohammed Bari, M.D., is a way for patients to celebrate their health and develop new friendships” explained Donna Seminara M.D., director of Geriatrics at SIUH.

Dr. Bari was a driving force for Geriatric Medicine, establishing the current program at the South Campus. Dr. Seminara has picked up the torch for this event. “This holiday dinner is a legacy to Dr. Bari’s care for his patients and the compassion he gave as a physician,” explained Dr. Seminara.
