SIUH Service Auxiliary Receives HANYS Award

Staten Island, NY - The Staten Island University Hospital Service Auxiliary has been recognized by the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) with the 2011 Auxiliary Advocacy Recognition Award. This is the second year in a row that this award has been bestowed on members of the auxiliary. The honor is given to auxiliaries that have committed significant time and effort serving as an advocate for their facility and community.

The SIUH Service Auxiliary - the oldest continuous auxiliary in the United States - is a non-profit organization in support of the mission of Staten Island University Hospital. Founded in 1863, the Auxiliary has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent years to assist the hospital in attaining its goals.

From an annual charity fashion show that involves hospital physicians and staff to monthly bake sales and raffles to partnerships with local businesses and organizations, the Auxiliary maintains a diverse fundraising program.

Members of the Auxiliary also work with local food pantries to collect food and help distribute hospital information at health fairs and outreach events that are vital to the community's health. Last year, the Auxiliary's advocacy efforts were highlighted on NY1 News on its NYer of the Week segment.
