University Hospice celebrates 25th anniversary

Circle of Life Gala Celebrates Hospice 25th Anniversary

Celebrating the Circle of Life with Love, the University Hospice Gala on Friday night  at The Vanderbilt at South Beach  honors individuals committed to compassionate care for terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones.

A night of dinner-dancing and reflection, the gala raises funds in support of University Hospice programs and initiatives while celebrating the efforts hospice professional and volunteer caregivers make everyday.

In its 25  th   year, University Hospice was founded in 1987 as a small program with a handful of patients. Since then it has grown in size and scope, building on its mission of care for seriously ill patients and their loved ones.

Today, more than 600 patients benefit from hospice each year in their homes, in nursing homes and hospitals.

The 2012 University Hospice honorees:

Anna Pallotta  ,  president, Staten Island University Hospital’s Service Auxiliary

Scott Johnson  ,  Architect - Hospice Advisory Board, Fund-raising Committee
Johnson is a hospice advocate who has been instrumental in the architectural design of the soon-to-open Hospice Addeo Residence.

Linda and Irwin Steinman  , co  -founders of Camp Good Grief
A twice a year sleep-over camp for bereaved children, Camp Good Grief offers creative outlets for children’s grief while teaching them coping techniques in a safe supportive atmosphere.

Peter Leone  ,  Physical Therapist, SIUH
