STATEN ISLAND, NY -- The parents of Staten Island's first baby of 2013 never expected their 6-pound, 3-ounce bundle of joy to claim the title; after all, she emerged nearly three hours post-midnight.

But when Tehseen Fatima gave birth to Ummal Bokhari at 2:52 a.m. in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, the stardust began to fly.

"I figured she can't be the first one, but then all the nurses started saying congratulations," said the baby girl's father, Syed Bokhari.

It's the Clifton couple's second child; they have an 18-month old boy at home waiting to meet his new little sister.

"I have a son and now I have a daughter. That completes the family," Bokhari said from the hospital room.

Mrs. Fatima said she felt nothing on her due date, Dec. 24. But on New Year's Eve, her future daughter was more than ready to enter the world. Her dad said that it was much faster than the birth of his son.

"This time, it was just, like, 'One, two, three ...boom," the proud papa said.

As the couple held their infant, both smiled when Ummal opened her little eyes. "Words can't describe it," Bokhari said.

While baby Ummal earned the distinction as Staten Island's first baby born in 2013, a Queens baby named Olivia Rose Espinal was the first born citywide, clocking in at just a few seconds after midnight.
