For NYC quintuplets, a big birthday: their fifth

NEW YORK — A set of quintuplets in New York City are getting ready to celebrate a fitting birthday — they're turning 5.

WABC-TV caught up with the Ferrante quintuplets and their parents on Staten Island for a report on Friday. Alessia, Amanda, Emily Ann, Matthew and Ella were born on Dec. 27, 2008.

At the time, Jamie and Kevin Ferrante were new to parenting. Now, Jamie Ferrante says, everyone asks them how they do it.

The answer amounts to a lot of everything: almost 30,000 diapers over the first 2 years, and 40 bottles a day when the infants were small.

Nowadays, it's cases of eggs and gallons of milk for the kindergarteners.

She says since the Ferrantes never had just one baby, five is the norm for them.
