SIUH Honors it’s Nurses during National Nurses Week

SIUH is kicking off National Nurses Week, May 6-12: a week of celebrations geared towards its 6,000 nurses.

“This year’s theme, ‘Nurses Leading the Way’, promotes nurses at the forefront in the transformation of healthcare. We are proud to honor our nurses for their commitment to providing exceptional care,” said Dian Johnson, Associate Executive Director/Nurse Executive.

To kick off the healthy celebration, meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served in the Regina McGinn Center for the North Site on Monday, May 5 and in the Main Conference Room at the hospital’s South Site on Tuesday, May 6. Biofeedback, Reiki and Meditation classes will also be held for the patient care employees on May 5 at 12 PM in the Nursing Resources Conference Room inside the CEU unit for the session.

Nurse of the Year Awards will be presented to 42 nurses; on Wednesday, May 7, from 1:30 to 3:30 PM in the Regina McGinn Center, Auditorium for the North Site and on Thursday, May 8, from 1 to 3 PM in the Main Conference Room for the South Site.

Nurses heal, understand, support, listen and comfort, all without a prescription. Wearing these many hats can induce great stress. Kerry Gillespie Director, Center for Complementary Medicine will present a Stress Reduction class in Room 340 at the South Site on May 8, from 10:30 to 11:30 AM and in the Regina McGinn Center, Room E for the North Site on May 9 from 1:30 to 2:30 PM.

To finish out the week, a special encore appearance from guest speaker, author and host of NSLIJ’s cable show, “Focus on Health,” Suzanne R. Steinbaum, DO, will be held Monday, May 12, in the Regina McGinn Center, Rooms C & D.

Dr. Steinbaum, Director, Women’s Heart Health, Heart and Vascular Institute, Lenox Hill Hospital, has dedicated her career to empowering women to keep their hearts and themselves healthy. Some lucky nurses will have the chance to win a copy of Dr. Steinbaum’s, Heart Book, Every Woman’s Guide to a Heart-Healthy Life.

Each of these dates celebrates and recognizes the contributions our nurses have offered to our health care and community.
