From left, Staten Island University Hospital volunteers Katherine Cappetta and Leondina Caccavo, along with Susan Lamberti, a member of the hospital's Service Auxiliary, were honored at the 20th annual United Hospital Fund's Hospital Auxilian and Volunteer Achievement Awards ceremony.

Two Staten Island University Hospital volunteers and one auxilian were honored March 15, 2013, at the Waldorf-Astoria during the 20th annual United Hospital Fund's Hospital Auxilian and Volunteer Achievement Awards ceremony.

Leondina (Dina) Caccavo, Katherine (Kay) Cappetta and Susan Lamberti will be among 86 volunteers feted with a luncheon in the Grand Ballroom of the renowned Manhattan hotel.

Cheryl Wills, NY1 news anchor, will speak to some 750 people expected to attend the event, which recognizes those who provide exceptional service to hospitals in all five boroughs.

Ms. Caccavo began serving in the gift shop at the North Site in 2006. In all types of weather – rain, sleet, snow – she can be counted on to come in to work via mass transportation to man the register and mentor to the junior volunteers assigned to the shop.

In 2011, Ms. Caccavo was named a Volunteer of the Year and received the Presidential Service Award. To date, she has contributed more than 7,900 hours of service.

A former SIUH employee, Ms. Cappetta began volunteering in 2009 at the Information Desk at the South Site, where she serves as a receptionist and visitor escort. She is also a coordinator and driver for others attending volunteer events.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Ms. Cappetta volunteered in the hospital's Company Store helping employees impacted by the storm obtain needed household supplies. In 2011, she was a Volunteer of the Year and was recognized by the Staten Island Interagency Council for the Aging. The SI Network of Volunteer Administrators recognized Ms. Cappetta in 2012. To date, she has donated more than 2,700 hours of service.

For more than 30 years, Ms. Lamberti taught special educations students on Staten Island. After retiring in 2001 from the NYC public school system, she became a director of Northfield Bank, where she also serves as chairperson of the Northfield Bank Foundation. In addition to the many charitable organizations she is involved within on Staten Island, she also serves as an elder at Olivet Presbyterian Church.

For the last four years, Ms. Lamberti has been a member of the hospital's Service Auxiliary, helping with fundraising events and co-chairing the Auxiliary's 2011 Fashion Show, which benefitted hospital programs and projects.
