Hematology/Oncology - Fellowship

The Hematology/Oncology division at Staten Island University Hospital offers 2 first year positions for our three year fellowship program. The goal of our program is to train outstanding specialists in the fields of Hematology and Oncology, who at the end of three years will demonstrate proficiency in the six competencies as they relate to Hematology and Oncology.

Our fellows have the opportunity to receive strong clinical training with exposure to a large variety of patients with a wide spectrum of diseases. The clinical experience provides a balance between inpatient and outpatient care. The outpatient area is located at the Nalitt Institute for Cancer and Blood Related Diseases at Staten Island University Hospital , which is the largest cancer treatment center in the borough.

The fellows rotate through the various subspecialties such as radiation oncology, transfusion medicine, palliative care, pathology, radiology, breast health, surgery and bone marrow transplantation. These rotations are offered at Staten Island University Hospital, except transplantation, which is offered at North Shore University Hospital.

There is an extensive schedule of conferences including both general and specialized tumor boards, chart reviews, didactic lectures, subspecialty board reviews and grand rounds. These conferences ensure that our fellows learn the multidisciplinary approach towards cancer care.

The fellows receive a diverse learning experience . Our fellows' in-service exam scores have consistently been excellent. Fellows actively participate in clinical research with a special focus in the third year when they have protected time to formulate and complete primary research assignments .
