About the Department of Dentistry

The SIUH Department of Dentistry is extensive and well-staffed with an attending faculty that is diversified in the broad range of dental specialties and subspecialties.

Dentistry's role is vital in providing a high volume of general and highly specialized services to the community.

Emergency care is offered around-the-clock. On-call services are shared by the first-year residents under the supervision of the attending staff.

More than 35,000 patient visits are accomplished each year. For the most part, these visits are for segments of the community who have no access to private dentistry. A large-scale dental program accommodates mentally retarded and developmentally disabled patients that is subsidized by the hospital.

The department subsidizes the cost of implantology prosthetics for seniors citizens on fixed incomes. Seniors who have a serious need for dentures that can only be retained with implants, can now afford implant technology thanks to support from the manufacturers and the hospital.
