Dentistry - Residency Program
As in most hospitals, there is a full schedule of conferences. Daily conferences
are scheduled with attendings who conduct lectures on subjects within their
particular expertise. Monthly staff meetings and grand rounds take place on
the first Thursday of each month, with prepared presentations given by the
attending staff. The residents present cases in progress to the Academic
Committee on the third Thursday of each month. A lively discussion generally
follows. All residents must be present at both grand rounds and at the
Academic Committee meetings.
Residents are required to prepare literature reviews in specialty areas for
presentations to the attending staff, as well as participate in a journal club,
which meets the first Thursday of each month.
Continuing Dental Education programs are conducted at the hospital by
nationally recognized authorities.
Residents are also assigned to attend lectures and courses given at other
institutions, or at regional dental meetings.
The Department of Dentistry conducts a 20-week course in dental assisting.
Dental residents participate in the training of the dental assistant students.
