Dr. Suzanne El-Sayegh is currently the Director of Ambulatory Care for the Department of Medicine at Staten Island University Hospital. She is also the Director of Performance Improvement for the Department of Medicine. Dr. El-Sayegh completed a primary care general internal medicine residency and chief residency at Staten Island University Hospital.
During her residency, she was awarded "Resident as Teacher" as a chief resident (2000-2001) for dedication and commitment to teaching medical residents and students.
Dr. El-Sayegh's abstract, "The outcome of patients with obstructive sleep apnea after gastric bypass surgery," was accepted for publication in SLEEP, 2000:23,Supp 2:A84, and was selected for poster presentation at the APSS 14th Annual Meeting, 2000, Las Vegas, Nevada. Her abstract, "Increased Breast Calcifications in Women with End Stage Renal Disease: Implications for Breast Cancer Screening," was selected for poster presentation at the American College of Physicians Downstate Scientific Meeting on April 28, 2001, New York City. Dr. El-Sayegh's research presentation, "Massive Weight Loss from Gastric Bypass Surgery as a Treatment for Obstructive Sleep Apnea," placed first in the Academy of Medicine Annual Resident/Fellow Research Competition in 2001, and "Morphology of Breast Calcifications in Women on Hemodialysis: Implications for Mammogram Interpretation" received honorable mention.
Dr. El-Sayegh subsequently completed a fellowship in Nephrology and in Transplant Nephrology at Mount Sinai, New York City. During her fellowship training, Dr. El-Sayegh was awarded a basic science research grant in transplant immunology from the Kidney and Urology Foundation in 2003. Dr. El-Sayegh presented at numerous local and national meetings, including those of the American College of Physicians, American Sleep Society, and the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. El-Sayegh has published in the Journal of Pediatric Nephrology on "Solid Organ Transplantation in HIV-infected Recipients."
Dr. El-Sayegh remains actively involved in teaching medical residents and students.

Dr. Aaron Gottesman is the Director of Hospitalist Services and the Associate Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at Staten Island University Hospital. A native New Yorker, Dr. Gottesman attended the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine at Staten Island University Hospital.
Dr. Gottesman has been a practicing hospitalist since 2000 and is a Diplomate of the American Boards of Internal Medicine, Quality Assurance, and Utilization Review Physicians and is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at SUNY-Brooklyn Downstate Medical School. He has presented at meetings of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Hospital Medicine and he has been a featured speaker for the World Research Group and the Healthcare Financial Management Association on topics ranging from post-hospital discharge systems, in-hospital collaboration processes, and hospitalist retention strategies.
Dr. Gottesman was featured in Crain's New York Business, Hospitalist and Inpatient Management Report, and Hospitalist Management Advisor, and sat on the editorial research panel of Postgraduate Medicine. He was a field tester for the American Board of Internal Medicine's Hospital-Based Practice Improvement Module, a physician pre-tester for the American College of Physicians' Medical Knowledge Self Assessment Program, and is the recipient of several research awards as well as the American Medical Association's Physician Recognition Award.
