Welcome to the Pediatric Residency Program

Philip Roth, M.D., PhD
Program Director and Chairman, Department of Pediatrics
Director, Neonatology

Welcome and thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Program at Staten Island University Hospital . Our program is unique in that although it is a newly accredited program, we have had many years of teaching and fostering pediatric residents and medical students rotating through our hospital.

Staten Island University Hospital which has earned its place among the leading hospitals in the northeast is a member of the North Shore / Long Island Jewish Health System (NSLIJ). Our state designated Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has 11 neonatal ICU beds and nearly 3,000 births per year. Both our inpatient and outpatient departments includes board certified physicians in all the subspecialties.  During their PICU rotations, residents will be rotating through our affiliated hospital, LIJ-Schneider Children's Hospital.

We are also a major academic affiliate of the State University of New York Health Science Center at Brooklyn's (SUNY-HSCB) College of Medicine and students from there and several other medical schools come here for an enriching teaching experience. Our comprehensive didactic curriculum for the residents is one that not only incorporates formal lectures and conferences but also interactive bedside teaching.

We are committed to providing excellence in patient care, education, and research. At the same time, we strive to ensure a collegial and supportive environment in which residents thrive.

I invite you to visit and experience for yourself the outstanding opportunities and programs offered here and to join us as we embark on this exciting new journey.
