The Early Childhood Direction Center is a free service, funded by the New York State Education Department with sponsorship by Staten Island University Hospital.

  • learning problems
  • delayed language
  • speech impairment
  • developmental delays
  • mental retardation
  • cerebral palsy
  • autism
  • epilepsy
  • deafness/hearing impairment
  • blindness/visual impairment
  • physical disabilities
  • behavior/emotional problems
  • attention deficit disorder
  • chronic health problems

Parents & professionals call upon the ECDC for information and referrals for:

  • diagnostic & evaluation services
  • early intervention services
  • preschool special education
  • integrated preschool day care and Head Start
  • respite and homemaker services
  • special therapies
  • counseling
  • medical and dental services
  • technology resources
  • entitlements
  • transportation
  • parent support groups
  • financial support
  • family support services

We function in a neutral manner...to ensure that parents and professionals benefit from the entire spectrum of assistance options that are available in their area.
