Jeffrey Nicastro, M.D., FACS
Program Director
Jeffrey Nicastro, M.D. received his MD from New York University
School of Medicine in 1988, where he was a member of the Alpha
Omega medical honor society. He completed his surgical residency
and chief residency in General Surgery at NYU-Bellevue in 1993.
A general surgeon on active duty in the United States Navy from
1993-1997, he was on the faculty at San Diego Naval Medical Center.
During this time, he supported “Operation Provide Hope” as the task
force surgeon COMPHIBRON ONE, off the coast of Somalia. He completed
his Naval Service as Director of General Surgery at Naval Hospital
Newport, Rhode Island.
Dr. Nicastro completed a Surgical Critical Care and Trauma fellowship
at Yale-New-Haven Medical Center in 1998 and joined the Staten Island
University Hospital and United Surgical Associates, P.C. Dr. Nicastro
is Board Certified in General Surgery and holds a certificate of
additional qualification in Surgical Critical Care. A Fellow of the
American College of Surgeons, he is also a member of the American
Society of Bariatric Surgeons. He currently serves as Director of
Trauma and Surgical Critical Care, Interim Director of Bariatric
Surgery, and is an Associate Director of Surgery at Staten Island
University Hospital.
Dr. Nicastro has performed more than 600 bariatric procedures. His
surgical interests include: General Surgery, Trauma, Surgical
Critical Care, Bariatric Surgery, and Surgical Oncology. Dr. Nicastro
is actively involved in surgical education as an Associate Clinical
Professor of Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical School and Associate
Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at Staten Island
University Hospital.
