Breast Cancer Evaluation Program

Don't Forget to Schedule Your Mammogram

University Hospital has assembled an impressive Breast Cancer Evaluation Program -- unique in that the program couples sophisticated evaluation technology with special and personal sensitivity, while also reaching out to stress breast health procedures.

The hospital has invested its resources in both modern mammography imaging and stereotactic core breast biopsy equipment that uses a fine-needle technique to remove a specimen no larger than a 2 millimeter pearl, often replacing the need for open surgical biopsy. Perhaps the greatest advantage is the quick reassurance given to eight of every ten women with a suspicious lump that their condition is benign.

The emphasis is on breast health -- early detection through education and self-examination on a regular basis, recognizing early warning signs, and evaluating personal histories to assess risk factors.

But, when cancer is diagnosed, the Breast Evaluation Program mobilizes a multidisciplinary team that assesses the condition and carefully reviews treatment options with the patient and her family -- options that range from medical treatments, radiation therapy, surgical intervention, and bone marrow transplantation. And, the team is guided by unique sensitivity and understanding that the decision is a highly personal one.
