The Early Childhood Direction Center is a free service, funded by the New York State Education Department with sponsorship by Staten Island University Hospital. Our Mission is to help parents and professionals locate and use community services that are designed for children (age five and under) with special needs or handicaps. We function in a neutral manner...to ensure that parents and professionals benefit from the entire spectrum of assistance options that are available in their area. Early Childhood Direction Centers can be found statewide. The New York State Department of Education funds a statewide network of Early Childhood Direction Centers through its Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) There are 15 Early Childhood Direction Centers statewide, covering every county in New York State.
