Phone (718) 226-4133 A highly experienced clinician, researcher and educator, Dr. Simpkins has served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Temple University Medical School and Pathologist-in-Chief at Temple University Hospital for the last fourteen years. His prior academic appointments include the University of Montreal, the University of Colorado Medical School, the University of California at Irvine and the State University of New York-Health Science Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Simpkins is the principle investigator for an active National Institutes of Health (NIH) 5-year, $1.1 million grant entitled “Dihydrodiol Dehydrogenase Mediates Cisplatin Resistance.” Dr. Simpkins graduated with his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Miami Medical School in 1975 and then completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Colorado Medical Center. Prior to medical school and residency training, he received a doctorate degree in biophysics and molecular biology at King’s College in London, England, where he completed a pre-doctoral fellowship. He went on to complete post-doctoral fellowship training at the University of California at Irving. Dr. Simpkins is board certified in pathology and holds New York State Clinical Laboratory Certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (including Forensic Toxicology/Flow Cytometry and Transfusion Medicine). |
