Appointment scheduling Because accommodating you with convenience is our goal, we will make every attempt to schedule your appointment for a screening mammogram within four weeks of your call. For the woman who has discovered a lump, or is in need of additional mammographic views, appointments for diagnostic mammograms are made within 48 to 72 hours. Screening mammography Currently, the American Cancer Society recommends an annual, routine screening mammogram beginning at age 40. Diagnostic imaging For women experiencing a clinical problem or an abnormal screening mammogram, a diagnostic work-up is recommended and usually includes supplemental mammographic views and breast ultrasound. Interventional breast imaging Because 80 percent of breast problems turn out to be benign, image-guided biopsy is most often the recommendation for the further study of non-palpable lesions found on mammographies or ultrasound. With image-guided biopsy, women are spared the discomfort and cost of open biopsy, while allowing for pre-surgical planning in cases of malignancies (lumpectomy vs. mastectomy, sentinal node biopsy, etc.). With image-guided technique, biopsies are performed using ultrasound guidance (for masses) or stereotactic guidance (for masses and calcifications). Readily available results Because we understand the anxiety a woman feels, results of diagnostic mammograms and breast ultrasounds are provided immediately. When prior mammograms are available for comparison, results of screening mammograms will be made available within 24 hours. |
