Mammography
The best defense against breast cancer is early detection.

Today's new standards recommend that women from the age of 40 should have a mammogram every year. One in nine women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. It is the second leading cause of death in women. Early detection is the key to survival.

Our mammography centers are ACR and FDA certified. All of our mammography staff are female and mammogram certified. We offer Breast Ultrasound Imaging and Stereotactic Core Breast Biopsy units, which can obtain tissue samples with minimal invasiveness.

Cat Scans
University Hospital - On the wave of new technology.
Utilizing three high-speed CT scanners, our systems have the ability to do multiple tasks at one time. While scanning a patient, we can visually monitor their exam as it progresses, we can view images from the exam while the system is still acquiring the image data as we can automatically film those images. All CT scans are supervised by a team of professional board-certified radiologists, ACLS certified RNs and registered technologists. We offer CT guided biopsies, and fast spiral scanning which decreases examination time by 50%-75%. For claustrophobic patients, sedation is available.

All types of CT scans are performed.

MRI
We offer the newest in state-of-the-art imaging systems.

Open MRI now available plus two high field MRI units. With our recently installed powerful magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system, our physicians are able to see inside the human body in ways never before possible. MRI scanners can image parts of the body previously hidden from view by bone because it "sees" right through the bone to the marrow. This system also boasts one of the fastest scan times, allowing more patients access to the scanner's special capabilities and is designed to enhance patient comfort. These high field, super conductive MRI systems are now complemented by an open MRI system located at Seaview Radiology.

Nuclear Medicine

Performance capabilities include: nuclear oncology whole body and SPECT imaging, nuclear cardiology SPECT imaging, Strontium-89 treatment for relief of painful metastic bone disease, imaging of infectious diseases and osteomyelitis, imaging studies of the bone, liver, and lung.

PET Imaging

A new era in clinical nuclear imaging has arrived at SIUH. The Division of Nuclear Medicine is proud to be the first and only facility on Staten Island to offer PET Imaging. Treating cancer not only requires an early diagnosis but the ability to determine the staging of the cancer (whether the cancer is localized or metastasized). SIUH is currently performing PET Imaging for the staging and restaging (to monitor effects of therapy) for lung and colorectal cancers, as well as melanoma and lymphoma.

PET - A state of the art PET / CT scanner will be operating in Verrazano Radiology during the first quarter of 2004.
Ultrasound

Performing general abdominal and pelvic ultrasound imaging; thyroid and testicular ultrasound; pediatric hips, spine, urological, and neurological imaging; vascular and color flow doppler studies of abdominal organs, peripheral venous and carotids; plus much more.

Interventional/Vascular Radiology

This is a service, provided by board- certified Radiologists with sub-specialty certification, using specialized radiographic techniques to diagnose and treat specific disease or trauma in a less invasive fashion than traditional surgical techniques.

Pediatric Services
We offer a full range of Pediatric Services that includes: MRI, Cat Scans, General X-Ray, and diagnostic radiology.

Flexible appointments are available at any location and most insurance's accepted.

All practitioners providing diagnostic and interventional radiology services are board certified Radiologists. During our routine hours a Radiologist for each sub specialty area: CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Vascular, Interventional and Neuro-Radiology are on call for emergencies.

All technical personnel providing radiology services are licensed by N.Y.S. Department of Health registered or registry eligible by the ARRT, and have appropriate training and competence evaluation and department in-service education.

All Imaging Nurses are R.N. Level with certification in advanced cardiac life support and pediatric advanced life support.
