Robert V. Wetz, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program

Appointments:  Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn

 

Dr. Wetz, a native Staten Islander, graduated from SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (SUNY-HSCB) and was the class valedictorian of that year.  He completed his internal medicine training at Staten Island University Hospital, including a chief residency year.  Dr. Wetz subsequently stayed on the faculty and was appointed Residency Program Director in October 2004.  He is board certified in internal medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP).

 

During his time at Staten Island University Hospital, Dr. Wetz has been awarded “Teacher of the Year” as a chief resident (1999-2000) and three times as a faculty member (2000-1, 2001-2 and 2005-6).  In addition to his role as Program Director, he currently serves as the Associate Chairman and Director of Student Education for the Department of Medicine.  Dr. Wetz is also a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at SUNY-HSCB.

 

Dr. Wetz is a member of the ambulatory care faculty; providing care to the patients of SIUH’s ambulatory pavilion.  In this capacity, he is a preceptor for both residents and students in the outpatient setting.

 

A passionate teacher, Dr. Wetz is fully committed to the education and professional advancement of the residency staff.  He prides himself on his approachability and willingness “to always be there for the residents.”
